Punching Shear Resistor Studs
Punching shear resistor studs, also known as shear reinforcement studs or headed shear connectors, are used in reinforced concrete slabs to prevent punching shear failure. This type of failure typically occurs around column supports when the slab can’t resist the concentrated loads, leading to localized cracking or even a structural collapse. Punching shear studs are commonly used in high-rise buildings, bridge decks, parking garages, and other structures where slabs are supported by columns.
