Product Attributes :

Punching Shear Resistor

Product Description

Punching Shear Resistor is a structural steel component primarily used in construction to prevent punching shear failure, which occurs when concentrated loads penetrate a slab or plate, especially in reinforced concrete or steel applications. These Punching Shear Resistor are usually installed around critical areas such as slab and column supports, and their main function is to spread the loads and enhance structural integrity. Shear arresters can be in the form of reinforcing bars, shear studs or plates that are bonded to the slab to relieve localized stresses and prevent damage.

Punching Shear Resistor Areas of Application:

Building and civil engineering: Mostly used in reinforced concrete slabs and flat slabs in building and infrastructure projects, especially at column-to-slab joints, where concentrated loads can lead to punching shear failure.

Bridge engineering: In the plane of bridge surfaces subjected to high concentrated loads, Punching Shear Resistor reinforce and stabilize areas prone to shear failure.

Industrial Facilities: Heavily loaded floors and slabs in factories or warehouses to prevent localized failure of large equipment or machinery.

Offshore and Marine Structures: Used on platforms and underwater structures where high loads are concentrated in small areas.

Standard:

Punching Shear Resistor are typically designed, manufactured and installed in accordance with the following standards (we currently manufacture ASTM A1044/A1044M):

Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1): “Design of Concrete Structures” outlines principles and requirements for structural safety, serviceability and durability, including punching shear guidelines.

ACI 318: The American Concrete Institute's “Code Requirements for the Construction of Concrete Structures” details the design of reinforced concrete structures, including resistance to punching shear.

BS 8110: The UK's “Structural Use of Concrete” specifies design criteria for punching shear resistance of flat slabs.

ASTM A1044/A1044M: Specifies requirements for steel shear stud assemblies used in composite structural members.

Welding Photo Description:

The welding process for installing punching shear resisting devices (especially shear studs) usually involves welding the shear stud directly to a steel plate or beam. The process may involve stud welding techniques to position and weld the shear stud to the structural component to form a strong bond.

Welding Principle:

Punching Shear Resistor are welded to sheet metal using the Stud Welder Model ST3150. Specialized torches and chucks are used in conjunction with ceramic ferrule to ensure an even, strong connection to resist shear forces. If you would like to see the process, check out the welding video in our official YOUTUBE account, which has a 1/2 inch welding video.
